The Scenes Of 'TIL DEATH DO US START!

The following descriptions are based on a black box theater production we did (using several short columns & wood planks to "suggest" the various settings). NOTE: We have done very successful staged reading without any sets, and the action still plays quite well (for those with a tight budget).

ACT I

Scene 1 THE PARLOR in Chatamborough Manor.
A fireplace mantle (suggested by  four columns and a plank across top) and the portrait of Mrs. Annabel Starewell Chatamborough.

Scene 2 THE GRAND HALL at Chatamborough Manor.
Six marble columns upstage suggest the opulent mansion.

Scene 3 THE TERRACE of Chatamborough Manor.
Two columns with plank over top suggest a stone bench.  Lights suggest outside foliage.

Scene 4 THE PARLOR at Chatamborough Manor.
Extra column pieces make up seats for séance members.

Scene 5 THE ROOFTOP of Chatamborough Manor.
Columns suggest the edge of the mansions roof.  Gargoyles on corner columns.  Lighting suggests moonlight.

Scene 6 BLACK BOX.
Singers move columns to fit next scene.

Scene 7 A CELL in the county jail.
Columns make up four corners of cell lit by special with bars.

Scene 8 THE PRIVATE CEMETARY OF CHATAMBOROUGH MANOR and THE NETHERWORLD.  Two columns suggest entrance to Netherworld.  Remaining columns in semicircle upstage.  Tattered fabric (burlap?) hangs from above.

ACT II

Scene 1 THE PRIVATE CEMETERY of Chatamborough Manor.  The plank (with writing on one side) stands upright to suggest Chip’s tombstone.

Scene 2 THE PARLOR of Chatamborough Manor.

Scene 3 THE LIBRARY  of Chatamborough Manor.
The columns suggest tall bookshelf's (vertical on stage).

Scene 4 THE DINING ROOM at Chatamborough manor.
Columns suggest seats at a long table.  A silver tray with coffee service sits atop a column.

Scene 5 CHIP AND MADELINE'S BEDROOM at C. Manor.  Three columns, with plank across two, suggest vanity and chair (infront of mirror).  Three other columns suggest foot of bed.

Scene 6 THE GRAND HALL.
Columns suggest long buffet table.  Silver trays with various foods sit on top.  A vase with flowers is also present.

Scene 7 THE PRIVATE CEMETERY of Chatamborough Manor. Two columns with planks over top suggest a stone bench.  Lights suggest outside foliage.  Villagers enter with torches.
